Abstract

This paper explores the evolution of dramaturgy from its ancient origins to contemporary practices, tracing its development through key historical shifts, influential playwrights and movements, technological innovations, and theoretical frameworks. Beginning with the ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome, where theater emerged as a medium for storytelling and religious rituals, the paper examines how dramaturgy evolved through the Renaissance, the rise of realism in the 19th century, and the experimentation of the 20th century avant-garde. Contemporary dramaturgy reflects a diverse landscape of styles and techniques, influenced by globalization, technology, and changing cultural norms. By examining the trajectory of dramaturgy over time, this paper aims to provide insight into the enduring relevance and adaptability of theatrical expression.
