COMPARING LAPAROSCOPIC AND OPEN HERNIA REPAIR: LONG-TERM OUTCOMES AND COMPLICATIONS
Keywords:
Hernia repair, laparoscopic surgery, open surgery, recurrence rate, patient satisfaction, surgical complications.Abstract
Hernia repair is one of the most common surgical procedures performed globally, with laparoscopic and open hernia repair methods being widely used. Recent advancements in surgical techniques have influenced patient outcomes, recurrence rates, and complication risks. This study compares the long-term outcomes and complications of both techniques, emphasizing their respective advantages and limitations. Laparoscopic repair has been associated with lower postoperative pain and faster recovery but is often more expensive. Open repair remains cost-effective but presents a higher risk of complications and longer recovery periods. The choice of surgical approach should consider individual patient factors, economic feasibility, and clinical outcomes.
