CLASSIFICATION OF PHRASAL VERBS IN ENGLISH

Abstract

 Phrasal verbs are integral components of the English language. They are combinations of verbs and particles ( prepositions or adverbs) that convey meanings distinct from the original verb. The significance of phrasal verbs lies in their ability to deliver more specific or idiomatic meanings. They can support  speakers sound more natural and fluent in conversational English. In fact, phrasal verbs are widely used in both informal and formal contexts, though they tend to be more common in everyday speech, texts, and media. The aim of the classification of phrasal verbs is to provide a unique  understanding of their syntactic and semantic properties. Classifying into several categories, Phrasal verbs can be studied such as transitive and intransitive, separable and inseparable, as well as idiomatic and non-idiomatic.
