VARIABLE RISK OF HEART DISEASE AND INBORN IMMUNITY
Abstract
The immune system, when functioning optimally, serves to protect the body against pathogens and other harmful entities. However, in the presence of hyperlipidemia, the immune response can become maladaptive, contributing to the pathogenesis of diseases. This maladaptive response is often characterized by chronic inflammation, which is a common underlying factor in the development of atherosclerosis, a leading cause of cardiovascular events.
